CNN.com - Makers of Kazaa suing record labels - Sep. 24, 2003

I find this horribly fucking amusing, to be honest. If Sharman Networks (the company that makes Kazaa) is gonna sue the RIAA for using Kazaa Lite, which is an infinitely better client than the one they provide and does not include any spyware, then why not sue everyone else on earth who uses it? Hell, why not sue the people that MADE it? And why not the people that make it available to the public? As much as I hate the RIAA, they’re right in saying this suit is “ironic and self-serving” simply because Sharman’s network was solely responsible for I’d say a good 75% of the copyright infringement that the RIAA is suing people for. I swear all this just gets more and more asinine everyday. *sigh* First off, there’s definitely gotta be a better way for the RIAA to get their way other than suing the pants off anyone they can get their hands on. I can’t say I agree with their methods of obtaining the subpoenas. The law is structured such that any joe blow could accuse anyone else of copyright infringement and get a subpoena for the person’s identity without ever even talking to a judge. How exactly is that even remotely constitutional? That’s right… it’s not. Yup, I download mp3’s, but they’re pretty much all techno/industrial stuff that the RIAA doesn’t even represent. I also don’t share on Kazaa. I very seldom even use Kazaa anymore because there’s just no good techno there… I’ll stick to soulseek. :) Anyway, that’s my bedtime rant. I’m tired as fuck, so it’s time to hit the hay.
