Found a pretty sweet piece of software called Skype that allows you to make PC-to-PC “phone calls” for free… anywhere in the world… all you need is a microphone and some speakers. It sounds best if you have broadband, but even on dialup it might not be too bad. From my experience, it uses about 42kbit of upstream bandwith, which means it sounds infinitely better than any telephone could possibly sound. If only I knew people who actually used it. You can search for people, but I feel kinda weird just randomly calling people that I don’t even know. It’d be kinda like calling someone out of the phone book. Anyway, check out the program… download it .

We are near the tipping point with this functionality. Once it starts to grow it will be amazing. Do you know where Skype is based?
not a clue, but I know it’s from the same company that does Kazaa… Sharman Networks? based in Australia, perhaps? Not sure… enlighten me
