today’s word!

Today’s word is “belated”. A relatively simple word that most everyone should know simply because I’m sure we’ve all heard “happy belated birthday”. Well, amusingly enough, right before I got off work, one of my female friends called me and asked me what the word meant. I was actually almost dumbfounded that anyone could NOT know the meaning of the word! She’d had someone tell her happy belated birthday and had no idea what he meant. So she decided to call me and ask me what it meant. This very same person also asked me previously what the word vegetate meant. Amusingly enough, she took it literally and thought that the person meant that they were going to eat a whole bunch of vegetables! *sigh* stupid people make my head hurt. :( I hope to god she doesn’t ever breed. I don’t deal with stupidity very well, to be perfectly honest. I’m a horrible smartass and I have a really hard time being anything but a complete fucking prick when someone asks me a question that I see as stupid or asinine. Yes, I’ll admit, that’s not the right way to come off to such people, but I just can’t help it. I’d make the worst teacher ever, I swear. I just have this thing where if I think you’re stupid, I’ll make damn sure you feel like a complete idiot. I don’t even try, it just comes completely naturally. I guess I’m somewhat of an elitist… I don’t much care to associate with people who I perceive to have a lower intelligence than myself. I don’t like to talk down to people, and I’m honestly not very good at it in the few instances in which I have to do it. People who speak horribly improper grammar really chap my ass, for example. I hate the phrase “fixin’ to”, as I’ve stated before, as well as I generally hate any sentence ending in the word “to”. Dangling prepositions are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me… absolutely makes me want to rip the person’s throat out when they can’t seem to form a proper sentence. Hell, it even bothers me when I slip up and use a dangling preposition (at times, I have to, lest the sentence sound convoluted and just plain awkward). In case you’re wondering, yes, I analyze every single sentence I speak and make sure that it comes out properly, and I will go so far as to correct myself if I don’t like the way I said something. In most cases, I won’t go so far as to correct myself instantly; I will actually just make sure that the next time I say a certain sentence, I say it in a more grammatically correct way. Ask any of my friends, they’ll vouch for the fact that I correct their grammar pretty regularly unless I just don’t feel like doing it at that particular time. However, I always notice it. Sometimes, I just opt to let it slide for the time being. So now that I’ve gone completley off on a random tangent, here’s today’s wrap-up. I worked 2:30-11:00pm, then after work I went to Bailey’s and had a few drinks with my roommate and a friend from work. We had some rather interesting conversations and I ended up getting just slightly less than drunk. I spent about $26 and came home feeling pretty good… Now I’m here posting more random bullshit and about to go to bed so I can get up for work tomorrow. Fun fun, eh? :)
