Dave Clarke

I’ve been downloading tons of shit off soulseek lately… I’ve been grabbing a lot of Dave Clarke’s stuff because, well, he’s a damn good DJ. He spins mostly this funky electro stuff, so it’s a lot of fun to listen to. His mixing skills are pretty damn good too. I like most of what he spins, but not everything. I grabbed one of his live sets and the first 20-30 minutes of it weren’t all that great, but then he just starts kicking mega ass. I’m listening to his “World Service” 2 CD set right now and it’s good so far. I’ve got some more of his live sets in queue. My collection is up to almost 4000 songs now and is at about 26.6GB. Soulseek just plain kicks ass.

On another note, allmusic.com decided to revamp their site, but in doing so, they’ve shut out basically anyone who doesn’t use IE5.5 or higher on Windows. The site doesn’t display properly in Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, or any other browser and if you try to visit the site using one of these browsers, it gives you a warning msg at the top saying that you’re not using an approved browser or whatever. Terrible timing for this given the recent exodus away from using IE as a primary browser because of all the security concerns. I guess Ill just have to start getting my info from other sources now thanks to that. I try to avoid using IE whenever possible. It’s horribly insecure, ugly, lacks features, and doesn’t support all web standards. Hell, it won’t even do transparent PNG’s! The weather icon I have on my page didn’t initially display properly in IE, so I had to find some javascript workaround to fix it. How pathetic is that? Microsoft apparently has no desire to add new features to IE as well, outside of what’s coming in WinXP SP2. From what I can tell, they’re only going to be adding a popup blocker (something Mozilla has had since I can remember) and some security fixes. SP2 will be a welcom addition, but still won’t sway me away from the alternative browsers. Microsoft won the browser war not because they had the better browser.. but because it was incorporated into the OS . Netscape eventually faded away and the Mozilla project along with Opera were basically the only competitors. By this time, IE already had like a 96% market share, so it’s been an uphill battle for both of them. Oh well, enough bitching…. time to go download more music.
