I found a neat article outlining how the Treo600 can be used instead of a laptop (at less than 1/2 the price, even). Obviously it’s not a PERFECT compromise, but one I’m more than willing to deal with. It does perfectly fine for browsing the web when need-be, plus I have some other apps that aren’t listed there that make my palm computing experience even more pleasant. Here’s the article:
Link. And here’s a few more apps worth checking out if you own a Treo600:
Directory Assistant which works as a phone book that accesses the internet and downloads the phone number for you. You can even dial from the app. I use it pretty regularly when I’m out and about… and I need a phone number QUICK. I never have to use 411 again!
FileZ , which is basically a file manager. It’s actually really easy to use and works very well from my experience.
Zlauncher is a “launcher” (shell) replacement for PalmOS. It allows skins, tabs, and various other nice features that the stock launcher does not include.
Verichat allows me to stay connected to AIM, MSN and Yahoo while I’m out and about.
Other apps I use, but not as regularly (they’re installed, but don’t get everyday interaction) would be TreoHelper, Butler, Phone Technician, and CallFilter. Call Filter is worthy of mention as it allows me to set rules such that I can have different ringtones for every caller, group of callers, or even for blocked/unidentified caller ID calls. Neat shit! Anyway, for those of you that use Treo’s, go read the article. It’s worth a read.
