OK, so today’s my birthday. I’m now officially 26. Joy. Another year older, big deal. I’ll probably end up hanging out with a few friends. Might go bowling, who knows. I most likely will get drunk and enjoy it. When you get to be in your mid to late 20’s, birthdays don’t mean much of anything. You’re just another year older and you don’t get anything out of the deal. Oh well, I have no clue why I’m still awake. I should probably hit the sack. Sam and I will most likely go dick around and ride around town for awhile. Outside of that and getting drunk, I have no clue what else will transpire throughout the course of my birthday. Most likely nothing major. At any rate, I’m going to bed.

A few random things… First I have gmail invites available that I can’t fucking get rid of. I have 3 left, I think. I invited a few friends and at this point I just want to get rid of them so if anyone feels like leaving a comment on my blog with an email, I’ll give you an invite. Secondly, I’m sitting here at work bored as shit. It’s Thanksgiving weekend so I guess everyone’s spending time with family or out shopping or whatever. Not that I mind as I’m getting paid to sit here and man a phone that isn’t ringing. Also, I bought myself a nice birthday present that won’t be here til AFTER my birthday. Since I commute everywhere by bicycle, I bought a really nice HID headlight for my bike. $290 after shipping, but worth every penny. I bought the Cygolite Z-force NiMh light. It’s a 12w metal-halide HID light that puts out about the same amount of light as a 40w halogen. Unlike a halogen, it gets 4 hrs of runtime. “Here’s a link”:http://www.cygolite.com/light/products/1zForceNiMH.htm to the light. If you look about halfway down, you can see a pic of the beam pattern. That’s a shitload of light and it seems to get great reviews. The only thing I don’t like is that the on/off switch is on the battery and not on the head. Also, it comes in one brightness… Retina-burning nuclear flash. Oh well.. I’ve added a few videos into the image gallery that I had on my computer but never bothered to upload. Check them out as they’re quite amusing to say the least. I’ll be adding more stuff as time goes along. Probably throw up a few jungle mixes that I really like and feel are worth downloading. That’s about all for now.
I swear to god… I hate spammers to no end. Basically, these “bots” keep plugging away at my blog and trying to add a comment to every post in my blog about some online casinos and shit. What’s amusing is the bot is leaving a famous quote as the comment text and putting a link to whatever online casino they’re hocking now. As such, I now have my blog set to ask me to approve any comments made to any posts. This means that if anyone actually posts a legitimate comment to my blog, it’ll email me and ask me to approve it first, so your comments won’t show up immediately. It’s absolutely retarded and I’m looking at a few wordpress plugins to help choke back the spam so I don’t have to make normal people jump through hoops just to leave comments on my posts. Too bad I don’t really have anything else worthwhile to post here. Nothing of importance has happened of late. I rode 55 miles in the past 3 days, so I feel good about that. I’ve been trying to mess with my saddle position because my knees have been kinda hurting lately. I think it’s because my saddle is too low and making my knees do things they shouldn’t. I got a new Cateye Astrale 8 cyclecomputer for my bike the other day. I absolutely love it. It gives me all kinds of info I’m curious about when I ride. Current speed, avg speed, max speed, cadence (how fast I’m spinning my pedals), total distance and total ride time. I’m interested to see how long it’ll take me to hit 100 miles. Birthday’s monday… dunno what I’m gonna do. Prolly get drunk.
Interestingly, one very important part of the Patriot Act just got struck down by a judge. Basically, there was a part of the Patriot Act that allowed the FBI to send out a National Security Letter (NSL) to a telephone company, internet provider, wehbost, etc. to find out the identity of someone without a court order!. Basically this means that let’s say you make a blog post that’s critical of the government… The FBI can then send a letter to your ISP asking for all of your personal information without ever seeking approval from a judge. Even worse, it comes with a gag order that states the recipient of the NSL can not speak to anyone about it ever happening ever and the ban cannot be lifted ever. They can’t even talk to their lawyers and can’t even dispute the fact that they have to cough up your personal information! Thankfully that part of the act was struck down.
Here’s the original post on the matter.

Well, I got 1.3 installed and the theme converted over to the new version. Everything appears to be working fine now. Nothing much else to speak of at the moment… I added a couple of images lately to the coppermine gallery… so go check it out here. Coppermine is getting ever closer to releasing their latest version 1.4. Nothing new has popped up in CVS worth grabbing lately so apparently they’re still dilligently slaving away at tweaking it or whatever. I haven’t found any new plugins or hacks worthy of using for either WP or CPG, but I’ve been looking. I’ve upgraded my webhosting package to 4gb storage, 100gb of traffic and a bunch of other cool stuff for $20 a month, so I’m going to try and add more stuff to make use of all that new space and bandwidth.
Wordpress has come out with a new alpha version of 1.3, so for the time being everything’s going to be all sorts of fucked up while I convert everything over to the new format.. joy! However, it’s something to do while I’m at work… so that’s why I’m doing it. Fun fun! WP 1.3 has tons of new features, one of which is themes. Hopefully I can find some sort of theme to work from so I know how everything is laid out in the new version. They’ve broken everything up into several files which is making things rather interesting now.
Holy shit… This has to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life. Guys on unicycles doing insane stunts.. Check it out here. I’ve never seen anything like it. I can’t even do that stuff on a bicycle, much less a unicycle. I’m not even sure I could RIDE one of those damn things, much less do crazy tricks on it. Yes, a few of them do crash as any normal person would. It’s a pretty decent-sized download so if you’re on dialup, it might take a little while to download. Definitely worth the click though.
Well, looks like Half-Life 2 and Need For Speed Underground 2 are both out… Unfortunately I’m hardly ever home so I’m not even sure if I’m going to bother purchasing either of them. I’m really tempted to get NFSU2 because I absolutely loved the first one and the 2nd one looks like it’s going to be seriously badass. I guess it’d be good to have as something to do if it rains and/or I don’t feel like riding. Granted that won’t be very often since I generally do ride everyday unless I’m off and it’s raining. That hasn’t happened yet, thankfully. As far as my bike goes, I’ve ordered a set of brake rotors and I should be ordering new wheels very soon. The way I see it, I’m going to order a 2nd full wheelset with brake rotors and a cassette that way I can use my good wheels most of the time but if it gets nasty and snowy outside, throw my old wheels on with a set of knobby tires and ride them instead. A new set of wheels, lighter rotors, lighter cassette, and a lighter fork should knock 5 lbs of weight off my bike which will be hella nice. My bike is fairly heavy as it is (~30 lbs) and I certainly wouldn’t mind it being more around the 25 lb range. Amusing how I’ve gone from spending all my money on my computer and cellphone and various electronic gadgets to spending all my money on my bike. Money on my bike is money well spent, though.
I’ve now registered a neat new domain name for my site… http://cryogenic.doesntexist.org will still work, but I’d prefer that you use “http://www.whatthefcuk.info”:http://www.whatthefcuk.info for my blog and “http://gallery.whatthefcuk.info”:http://gallery.whatthefcuk.info for my gallery. It was something random I thought up while at work. It’s mildly amusing. Just thought I’d let everyone know. The old domain name will still work for a little while. I might kill it soon, though.
Holy shit… Google just posted an entry to their blog saying that they’ve doubled their index to include 8 billion pages now. That’s an insane amount of data. They say that it’s a decent chunk of what’s available on the web, but certainly not all of it. I’m not even sure it’s possible to index every single page on the web today, but they’re trying damn hard to do it. I know google indexes my page quite a bit, since I actually get hits with “googlebot” as the user-agent string. I do tend to check my stats quite a bit just out of sheer curiosity. At any rate, “here’s the link”:http://www.google.com/googleblog/ to the actual post in their blog about them doubling their index. Looks like the search engine war is heating up even more after Yahoo split off and did their own thing with their search engine no longer using google’s technology. Now MSN is set to unveil a new search engine using Yahoo’s technology as well. Currently it’s in beta though I haven’t used it as of yet. Pretty interesting stuff if you’re a geek.
