I really hate rain and it seems like when TN gets rain, it lasts a minimum of 3-5 days. It’s rained off and on everyday for the past 3 days and it’s not supposed to stop raining until about noon today. Rain doesn’t make riding my bike impossible, but it makes it more annoying due to me getting wet. I rode maybe 4 miles in the rain today and was absolutely soaked. I’ve decided I need some rain gear because it’s inevitable that I’m going to be riding in the rain a good bit in the near future. We seem to get most of our rain in the cold months (Nov, Dec, Jan) as opposed to the summer. Riding in the rain in 80 degree weather is fun. In 40 degree weather, it’s not so fun. Even more annoying, I already got my first flat when I ran over some glass Tuesday night. I superglued the hole but that didn’t last too long and went flat again tonight. I figured it wouldn’t be permanent and would actually get me to the bike shop wednesday, which it would have but I didn’t get a chance to go. So basically about 2:30 am when I got out of work, it was almost flat and I had to fill it up again. Basically I’ll just take it to the bike shop this afternoon and have it patched. It came with really cheap ass tubes, so I may just go ahead and use that as an opportunity to buy a better tube. And here I thought I could go 2 weeks without a single flat! I just thought I could go a couple weeks without a patch kit and get one with this upcoming check, but I guess I was wrong.
Oh well.. I’ll get it fixed and remember to carry a patch kit and/or tubes with me. I remember when I used to ride before that I used to get between 4-7 flats a month on average, sometimes as many as 10. Knoxville’s roads are littered with glass, nails, staples, and various other debris so flats are a pretty common thing for bikers. Seems that rednecks have some sort of wacko fascination with tossing beer bottles from cars. Go figure.
