8 billion pages?

Holy shit… Google just posted an entry to their blog saying that they’ve doubled their index to include 8 billion pages now. That’s an insane amount of data. They say that it’s a decent chunk of what’s available on the web, but certainly not all of it. I’m not even sure it’s possible to index every single page on the web today, but they’re trying damn hard to do it. I know google indexes my page quite a bit, since I actually get hits with “googlebot” as the user-agent string. I do tend to check my stats quite a bit just out of sheer curiosity. At any rate, “here’s the link”:http://www.google.com/googleblog/ to the actual post in their blog about them doubling their index. Looks like the search engine war is heating up even more after Yahoo split off and did their own thing with their search engine no longer using google’s technology. Now MSN is set to unveil a new search engine using Yahoo’s technology as well. Currently it’s in beta though I haven’t used it as of yet. Pretty interesting stuff if you’re a geek.
