I finally decided to get some real road pedals for my real road bike. Of course that meant buying a new pair of shoes, too. The pedals I decided on were the Time RXS and the shoes are the Specialized Comp Road. The pedals are really nice and amazingly secure… it feels like you’ve been surgically grafted to the bike. I’m still getting used to actually getting clipped into them, but other than that I absolutely love them. The shoes are comfortable on the bike, but they’re completely not meant to be walked in. I walk a lot like a spastic duck because of the huge cleats on the bottom of them. Needless to say, I won’t be walking around the mall with these shoes on anytime soon. I think if I know I’m going to need to get off the bike and do any major amount of walking I’ll either have to switch back to my other pedals & shoes for that day or just carry a pair of sandals with me in my bag.
I’ve also decided to remove the bar tape off my handlebars because it looked like shit and was getting annoying. Not only that, it was covering up all the neato curves and cutouts on the bars, thus defeating the purpose of having them in the first place. Plus, the carbon is too sexy to not show off. I think the only things left to do to my new bike are maybe a new seatpost.. and probably a new helmet since mine is so old and doesn’t match my bike at all. Well, I might pick up some Kool Stop salmon brake pads soon too. My current pads are fine, but I think the salmons will give me some extra stopping power, which is always a good thing. ![]()
