For now it’s only available in Korea, but there’s no good reason it can’t be imported over here. It’s CDMA and has EV-DO, which means it should work on both Verizon and Sprint. A slider PDA phone with a 2.2″ 320×240 (QVGA) screen, bluetooth, 2MP camera, Windows Mobile and a 3GB hard drive! Yes, you read correctly, a hard drive. Screw removable storage, I’ll take the hard drive anyday. Being able to carry one device that does everything seems like a winner to me…. A phone, PDA, mp3 player and video player all wrapped up in one. No need to carry 3 or 4 devices anymore! Now, we can only hope that one of our two major lovely CDMA carriers will opt to pick up this badass phone.

Catholic school forbids students from having “blogs”
Ok, wtf? So apparently this private Catholic school in NJ has decided to forbid its students from having personal blogs. Mind you, they’re not just forbidding students from blogging while at school (which I could understand) but from blogging AT HOME. I’d like to know how that’s even remotely legal…. a school trying to regulate what students do on their own time away from school? Leave it to the fucking Catholics to think of something so utterly asinine. The reverend/principal/whatthefuckever says it’s to protect the students from online predators and whatnot. Yeah fucking right. The real reason they’re doing it is so that students don’t go saying bad stuff about the school online where everyone can read it. It’s to protect the school’s image. Don’t want the rest of the world knowing about the reverend’s special punishment for all those cute young freshman Catholic schoolgirls who wear their skirts a bit too short. Give me a break. God forbid they let these kids actually think and act for themselves and turn into responsible, self-sufficient adults. That’d be bad for the church, eh? Even funnier is that the idiot claims that he believes that most of the students have complied with the order. How in the world would he know if they’ve complied? Seriously, does he sit at home at night browsing through all the xanga, myspace, livejournal, etc. sites looking for students of his school to see if they have online blogs? He also says that those that don’t comply will face punishment. What kind of punishment? Does he not think for half a second that if he DOES decide to actually go through with punishing any student for not complying that it won’t end up in court? Dude’s definitely opened up a hell of a can of worms here. I’m not so sure I’d really want to be in his shoes at this point given the shitstorm he’s quite possibly setting himself up for. Why is it always the Catholic church that ends up stirring up the shit?
Well, if it wasn’t it sure was damn close. There were like 10 of us or so at my house… Only about 6 of us actually drank, though. Needless to say I got completely destroyed. We managed to knock out a 1.75L bottle of jager and a fuckload of beer. I believe somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 beers, maybe? I only drank the jager, of course since I don’t fucking drink that nasty shit you fuckers refer to as beer (I call it horse piss). Needless to say, it was ten tons of fun. We made hunch punch but unfortunately that shit’s way too strong for most people so it was one cup and fucked. Literally, the girls each had a cup and were basically shitfucked. Both amusing and sad at the same time. Sad because the fruit and gummy worms that were soaking in it all night didn’t get eaten.
I saved the punch since a ton was left over. I saved the fruit as well to snack on throughout the week. Hopefully it won’t go bad. We’ll find some use for the punch in the very near future I’m sure. Despite all the drunkenness, nothing got broken and there weren’t any crazy messes to clean up. Basically a great party all in all. Hell, even Nay Nay showed up! She normally doesn’t make it down my way since she lives about 35 miles away but I’m sure she’s glad she showed up. After all, she got to see Sam and I completely demolished beyond belief. FUBAR most certainly applies here. I can’t remember the last time I got that creamed…. I think maybe the night we went to the strip club I was a bit worse-off than I was last night. At least I didn’t wake up with a hangover, most likely due to the mass amounts of red bull we drank. I bought a case of 24 for $31 and ended up with something like 5 or 6 left at the end of the night… That’s a LOT of fucking red bull gone… not to mention a fuckload of jager gone too. We’ll definitely have to party with those fuckers again sometime soon. I like people who can party and NOT get the cops called or the neighbors pissed or shit broken and whatnot. So yeah… all in all a great night. Not only did I get shitty drunk and have fun with kickass people… I saw two people I haven’t seen in forever: Nikki and Nay Nay. Nikki I’d previously only met once and I didn’t even recognize her when she came in. I literally looked at her and said “Do I know you?” and she responds with “motherfucker you BETTER know me”… at which point I realized who it was (thankfully). Then of course there’s Nay nay… she didn’t show up until I was already pretty much tanked so I don’t really remember even inviting her over or anything. She just showed up and I was like “holy shit it’s Nay Nay!” I don’t even know how long she stayed or anything. NO clue when she got there and no clue when she left. That whole time period was a complete blur, to say the least. Fun times!
Surprisingly, I’m a sports fan. I’m a geek but somehow I still manage to love to watch sports. Most geeks hate sports, but I don’t know why I’ve always loved watching. I hate playing them but I like watching them, analyzing them and following the stats and all that good stuff. Needless to say, this weekend in college football was fucking amazing… just a quick rundown of my take on things.
We’ll start with the obvious…. Notre Dame vs USC. I’ll admit, I thought ND had that one in the bag but nooooooo… fucking USC just can’t seem to lose a game no matter what. They were completely outplayed from beginning to end yet still find some way to pull one out of their asses. Mind you, Reggie Bush pushing Matt Lienart into the endzone on the last play of the game isn’t exactly legal but fact is no ref is ever going to call that penalty. Alas, USC is still number 1 and Notre Dame proved that they’re finally at least most of the way back to their former glory. If anyone ever doubted that Brady Quinn is a damned good QB, just look at the way he played that game. Arguably the most important game of his career, he did everything he could possibly do to try and make sure his team came out on top but the defense let him down. Quite possibly the best college football game I’ve ever watched, to say the least. It goes without saying that USC may very well win an unprecedented 3rd consecutive national title. Texas hasn’t really been tested yet so I’m not sure they can beat USC if the BCS polls stay where they are. This USC team may very well be the greatest college football team to take the field. Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, LenDell White, Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett will all be playing on Sundays in the very near future. Obviously there will be more (especially on the O-line). Heck, I think USC could beat any of the teams in the NFL’s NFC North and NFC west conferences. Anyway, enough about that game… it was fucking amazing, enough said. I don’t think anyone’s going to be forgetting about it anytime soon…. moving right along to the OTHER tight game that nobody saw..
Michigan vs Penn State went down to the wire just like USC-Notre Dame game but it wasn’t nationally televised like the ND-USC game was. Too bad because Penn State was undefeated and Michigan was a disappointing 3-3 coming into this game. Michgan had lost to ND, Wisconsin and Minnesota… Penn State had just beaten Ohio State to move into the top 10. On paper, this didn’t even look close. I guess someone forgot to tell the kids at Michigan that they were supposed to roll over and die. Up 21-18 with under 4:00 to go, Michigan proceeds to give up an 83 yard touchdown drive to put Penn State up 25-21 with under a minute to go. Chad Henne marches the Wolverines down the field but ends up with a 4th down on the 10 yard line with 0:01 on the clock. Somehow Penn State leaves Mario Manningham wide open in the endzone, Henne hits him in the numbers as time expires and the Wolverines win the game. Hey, if the Wolverines can’t win the Big 10 they sure as fuck can ruin some other teams’ seasons, that’s for sure. Crazy weekend in college football, no doubt…
#4 Florida State lost to unranked Virginia! No, not Virginia Tech, unranked Virginia that was 3-2 coming into the game and hadn’t looked particularly good in a 28-17 loss to Boston College the week before. I knew FSU’s offense was rather suspect and didn’t think they were really worthy of being a top 5 team and they really showed it. Alabama had a scare against Ole Miss, having to kick a last-second field goal to squeak by 13-10. Perhaps the loss of Tyrone Prothro is having more of an effect on their offense than they’re willing to admit. They play Tennessee next week, which should most certainly be an interesting game as it’s always been a huge rivalry. Despite the scare, I’m picking the ‘Tide as UT hasn’t been very impressive in any of their games so far this year. Then there’s Texas Tech. If you like run & gun offense, this is your team folks. I mean, jesus fucking christ. 59-20 over Kansas state? Cody Hodges in his first year starting throws for 643 yards and five touchdowns…. that bears repeating folks… SIX HUNDRED and FORTY-THREE yards! Amusingly, he didn’t even set any records… not a team record, not a conference record nor an NCAA record! His running back, Taurean Henderson caught 10 balls for 118 yards and didn’t even lead the team… Their #1 wide receiver, Joel Filani, caught 10 for 255 yards. These guys are just friggin nuts on offense, but they’re going to need a little more than a great offense to stop Vince Young and #2 Texas this coming weekend. I don’t think Texas Tech will remain undefeated after that game, but they’re still a shitload of fun to watch. West Virginia beat #19 Louisville in triple OT by stuffing a 2 point conversion attempt…. WV’s running back had SIX touchdowns that game… I saw some highlights and was quite impressed with that game. Louisville had them beat quite badly and somehow gave up the game. That’s two losses to unranked teams this year for Louisville. Sorry, but I can’t see how anyone would keep them in the top 25 at this point with as inconsistent as they’ve been. And just to prove that good special teams can win games for you… take a look at Wisconsin-Minnesota. Minnesota’s up by 3 with under a minute to go.. they have a 4th down in their own territory and decide to punt it away. Good choice, except the long snapper makes what might be the worst snap of the year. Punter finally picks up the ball and decides to punt it, but it’s blocked and returned for a touchdown. Wisonsin wins the game, basically stealing it from Minnesota. Hindsight is always 20/20 but the punter seriously should have just turned around and punted it through the back of the endzone for the safety. They’re then up by 1 pt with about 15 seconds to go and Wisconsin starting from their own end of the field. Instead they lose a game they had pretty much in the bag due to sloppy special teams play. Beautiful!
goddamn I love college football ![]()
So along with their new video ipod, apple has released new and updated versions of the iMac G5. For $1299, it’s quite the good deal if you ask me. Granted, Apple still sucks for gaming but if you’re using it as a home computer to watch movies, listen to music, chat online, browse the web, burn CD’s & DVD’s, it’s a really nice computer. Take a look at the specs:
- 17-inch widescreen LCD
- 1.9GHz PowerPC G5
- 512MB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
- 160GB Serial ATA hard drive
- 8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
- Built-in iSight camera
- ATI Radeon X600 Pro with 128MB DDR SDRAM; PCI-Express
- Two FireWire 400 ports; three USB 2.0 ports, two USB 1.1 ports (on keyboard); VGA output; S-video and composite video output
- Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) ethernet
- Built-in 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11g)
- built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) module
- Apple Remote, Apple Keyboard, Mighty Mouse
- Built-in stereo speakers, built-in microphone, headphone/optical digital audio output, audio line in
Basically it looks as though this sucker has nearly every form of connectivity imaginable. It also comes with a nice little remote to control your computer from a distance if you’re listening to music or watching movies. You can get it in a 17″ version (specs listed above @ $1299) or an upgraded 20″ model for $1699 that adds a bigger hard drive (250GB), faster CPU (2.1Ghz), better graphics (X600XT vs Pro) and of course the bigger and better screen. I must say I’m pretty impressed with the 17″ version, not so much the 20″ version as it’s a pretty big price jump. Apple is obviously trying to get into the lower-end market with the 17″, most likely due to constantly losing sales to Dell. Admittedly, a similarly configured Dell may be a bit cheaper but no way will it be better looking and pack quite as much stuff all in such a small, sleek package. Definitely a good choice if you’ve got the coin to drop. I’d buy one if I wasn’t such a PC geek and if I had $1500 (figuring tax and stuff) to blow. Anyway, here’s apple’s site with more info and a ton of pics.
I’m not too much of a baseball fan until it comes playoff time. I actually took the time to watch game 4 of the Astros - Braves division series and was pleasantly surprised at the awesome game I got to watch. Basically, if the Braves won it went back to Atlanta for game 5 and if the Astros won the Braves’ golf season started a bit earlier than anticipated. I’m not really capable of sitting and watching a full 9-inning game and I actually managed to miss the first few innings because I didn’t know the game was even on. When I tuned in, it was 4-0 braves in the 3rd inning. I watched for a few innings and the Astros seemed completely unable to get anything going off Tim Hudson so I just assumed that the series would be heading back to Atlanta for game 5. I tuned into the Eagles/Cowboys football game on a different channel since I figured it might be a bit more interesting (it was if you were a Cowboys fan; they were laying some serious smackdown on the Eagles). So I’m watching the football game and the baseball game score flashes up… 6-6 in the 10th inning! What the fuck? So I tune back into ESPN hoping that they’ll recap what’s been going on. Well, turns out they did and Houston managed to get one run back, then hit a grand slam in the 8th to make it 6-5 then the game tying home run in the bottom of the 9th with two out. Boy was I pissed that I missed it! At this point, I figure this game is going to be really exciting and stay tuned in. No way in hell was I expecting to see what I saw. Basically both teams trotted out player after player and pitcher after pitcher in the hopes of winning this game. Houston ran out of position players and came down to only one pitcher left on the roster. How fitting the only guy left would be the Rocket? Roger Clemens, a player who came out of retirement last year just so he could try and bring a World Series ring to his hometown club. A guy who’d pitched just two days earlier and gotten his ass handed to him. Had he not lost that game, this series would have been over already. He came in for the 15th - 18th (yes 18th!) innings and pitched some masterful baseball. Only his second relief appearance in his entire career, his first being as a rookie with the Boston Red Sox 21 years ago. He’s 43 fucking years old and pitching on 3 days rest in RELIEF… not only that, mowing batters down left and right, ending each of the three innings with a strikeout. Fucking amazing. Even more amazing was the fact that the game ended on a solo home run in the bottom of the 18th with one out. Chris Burke, who had come in as a pinch runner for Lance Berkman in the 10th hit the one homer he’ll probably never forget the rest of his life. The guy hit .248 all year long and wasn’t even a full-time starter. Crazy game, I’ll tell ya. Yet another one to add to the Rocket’s legendary career. Seriously, he may just be one of the greatest players many of us will ever see in our lifetimes. Hell, the only reason he’s playing is because he wants to win a World Series in his hometown. He’s won it with the Yankees, but Houston has never won it in their history. Roger Clemens may just get what he wants this year. Unfortunately, for the 2nd time in two years they have to beat St. Louis to get to the big dance. Here’s to hoping they get the job done.
Well, there might be a good reason for it. We’ve all been there, after all. You turn in your resume, hopeful that you’ll get an interview but that call never comes. You wonder what the deal is. Most likely your resume isn’t so hot. It’s not the jobs you’ve put on it or the experience but just how it’s written. Here’s a nice article on what not to put in your resume. I’ll even be the first to admit that I know jack shit about writing a decent resume. Sad thing is that it’s NOT something they teach you in school. And why the fuck not? High school is supposed to prepare us for “the real world” in some form or fashion so why in the world is it that they don’t teach you how to get a job? They don’t teach you how to write a resume, how to handle an interview, what to expect from an interview, etc. It just doesn’t make sense. Fact of the matter is, high school isn’t about preparing you for the real world at all. High school is about making sure you score well on standardized tests so the state doesn’t lose government funding for public education. On the other hand, I believe most colleges offer some sort of course or class on how to write a resume and how to do well in an interview and all that. At least some form of assistance with such things is generally available through your advisor, I would assume. Still, it seems as though virtually no emphasis is placed on such things when in fact they’re probably the single most important thing to getting the job. You could have the most perfect qualifications for a given job but if you don’t sell yourself, you’re not getting the job. Master’s degree from Stanford in a related field, 5yrs experience, excellent GPA in college, shitty resume, obviously uncomfortable during the interview…. you’re probably getting passed over. Personally I’ve found that as long as your resume isn’t complete bullshit and/or terribly-written you can often make up for it with an awesome interview. However, a piss-poor resume isn’t going to even get you an interview. Regardless, I don’t understand why this stuff isn’t taught at some level. Heck, I don’t know that it’s ever been taught in school at any level. It sure as heck wasn’t when I graduated (1997). Obviously I’ve never been to private school so things may be different there, but those kids are paying for their school. Public school kids aren’t paying for their school; their parents are through taxes, technically. Anyway, read the article… It’s pretty good stuff.
