oh my god what a car!

Koenigsegg Official Website

Yeah, it’s a Koenigsegg… it’s a supercar made in Sweden and may very well be the sexiest car on earth. Not only that, it does over 245mph and does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds in its fastest form. Absolutely ridiculous. I would fuck that car in the tailpipe, no joke.

Hot o’ mighty!

While the title might seem completely random, it’s totally not. You see, my girlfriend has absolutely enormous tits (36DD) and she wore a tank top today that sort of (ok, more than sort of) showed off her cleavage. Regardless, she has a jacket somewhat covering herself so it’s not just absolutely blatant but you can still see her tits if you look. So we’re downtown at the transfer point waiting on one of the free trolleys when we pass this old homeless dude who seems drunk but really just isn’t all there upstairs. As we pass, quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever heard come out of another human’s mouth comes out of his…. “Hot o’ MIGHTY! That’s what I’M talkin’ ’bout”. At this point, Tammy and I literally bust out laughing harder than we have in quite some time and continue on about our business of walking down to the spot where we wait for the trolley (we were headed to campus to get some Chinese food). We figured that this would be the only amusement we would get for the day but boy were we wrong. When we get on the trolley, Mr. Hot O’ Mighty gets on the same trolley with us but doesn’t actually follow us (thank god). He sits down next to this sorta younger girl near the front of the trolley. She’s acting just plain friggin stupid to say the least. The trolley driver had the radio on a local rap/hip-hop/R&B station and the girl for some reason felt the need to sing along and dance to nearly every single song that played. Not only this, she decides that the entire trolley needs to be kept abreast of her personal life… Namely that she’s 19 years old, single, has a kid, one more on the way and loves to go out clubbin’. Various other statements were made but at this point we were absolutely trying our hardest to ignore the shit out of her, hard as it may have been. If I didn’t know any better, I would think this girl was either drunk or had taken a bunch of ecstacy because she was just wayyyyy too damn happy for her own good. Annoyingly so, actually. So apparently we had two run-ins with drugged-up/fucked-up/crazy people in our trek to get Chinese food. Man what a day! Oh, and here’s a shot of what she was wearing today.

MS releases feature-complete version of Vista

PC Magazine Special Report: Inside Windows Vista, Build 5308

Looks like Microsoft is calling the newest Community Technical Preview (CTP) of Vista "feature complete", which means they have all the features set that they’re going to include in the OS and thus are just going to spend the rest of the time refining them to the point where they actually work correctly (let’s hope). Looking at the screenshots it looks really nice and seems to have quite a bit of promise. I’ll be curious to see how it compares to the latest version of Mac OSX, which is quite possibly the most well thought-out OS I’ve ever laid my hands on. Should be interesting to see how Vista turns out. Perhaps it might actually be worth paying for? That’d be a first for a MS operating system! :-P

Stupid kids these days

Stupid fucking kids… I swear… A 16 year old kid takes pics of himself with guns (handguns, rifles, etc) and rather disturbing captions and POSTS THEM ON MYSPACE. Newsflash! Everyone and their goddamn grandmothers has myspace and somebody is going to see that shit. So apparently a bunch of his classmates get freaked out by the pictures and tell their parents who then call the school board and voice concerns. So the principal suspends the kid and calls the cops. I don’t blame him. The kid’s stupid enough to actually take pics like that and post them for the world to see, no telling what other kind of stupid shit he might pull. Now, I have nothing against the ownership of firearms for the general public but I’m totally against KIDS having guns. When you’re an adult, fine… but as a kid? No way is anybody that young even remotely mature enough to carry a gun and not end up blowing someone else’s brains out over something stupid. The fact that the kid was able to take such pics makes me wonder where he got them. Where were the parents in this? Did they let him have the guns? Did they even know that he had them? Did they know he had them and not do anything about it? In any case, that’s horrible parenting. That’s fine and dandy that they’re holding the kid in custody but it’s not like the parents are without fault here. That’s completely irresponsible and the fact that they may very well not even be punished (nothing is said in the article) is just complete bullshit. I dunno about the rest of you out there but if I was in the judge’s place when the kid goes to court, I’d seriously be sending the parents to some sort of parenting class at the very least. The article is pretty vague and doesn’t include anything about the parents at all and whether or not anyone questioned them in the matter and what they have to say about the whole situation. Either way, I can’t say I’ve noticed parenting getting any better over the past 10 yrs. Kids getting pregnant at 13, smoking weed, doing drugs, skipping school, getting drunk… all before the age of 18. What’s the point in getting drunk, fucked and fucked up so young? To seem more like an adult? You’re a kid, act like one… You’re only a kid once, enjoy it while you can, ya know? Shit, you never get those years back so why spend them trying to be a full-blown adult? I don’t quite get that. Being an adult isn’t all it’s cracked up to be! There are plenty of times I wish I was still a kid and didn’t have all these fucking bills and responsibilities. Oh, well.. enough ranting for now. :P

Flock

I’ve decided to take the time to try out  Flock, which is a browser based on Firefox but adds a few new features that aren’t currently available in Firefox (though can probably be added via extensions). Basically it’s a version of Firefox tuned towards the more community aspects of the web in general. It integrates with your weblog (works fine with Wordpress, seeing as how I’m typing this post in the blog editor in Flock), del.icio.us social bookmarking service and flickr photo sharing service. Basically if you see a page you like, you can bookmark it to del.icio.us, which allows all your friends and other people who are members @ del.icio.us to see your bookmarks… you can also upload photos to flickr and make blog posts all without actually having to go to the given sites, login and post. It even has a blog editor right in the browser itself that you can open in another tab, all without actually having to visit your blog. Pretty neat stuff so far. I’ll have to play with it some more and report back on how well it actually works in practice. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s limited to flickr so uploading pics for me will still require logging into my gallery and uploading them manually instead of just dragging them over the flickr icon in the browser. I have plenty of pics in my gallery so I can’t be arsed to bother signing up with Flickr just to be able to use that feature. Either way, the browser looks pretty promising and it’s only at version 0.5.11!

More XV6700 stuff

Now that I’ve had my phone for a few weeks, I’ve found a few programs that I think are more or less indispensible for various reasons… I’ve also found a few more hacks worth posting. First off, the programs.
Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile 5 is currently in “beta” but I’ve been using it for a good while now and it absolutely blows Pocket IE out of the water. It supports multiple windows, full javascript support and actually does a pretty damn good job rendering fairly complex pages normally only accessible from a desktop. They give you a 45 day trial and after that it costs $29. Uninstalling and re-installing seems to reset your trial period, though.

SPB PocketPlus is probably one of the best “today” plugins I’ve found so far. First off, it doesn’t slow your screen switching to an absolute crawl so that’s a huge plus to start with. Second of all, the today plugin has customizable tabs so you can add all kinds of shortcuts to programs, functions, features and even memory and battery meters. Having a button on your today screen to soft reset your device is a heckuva plus too. I also like the battery meter it puts along the top edge of your screen. Out of the way, but easy to glance at to get a feel for battery life.

GSPlayer is by far one of the best media players for Windows Mobile. As far as I can tell, it works perfectly with WM5 seeing as how I haven’t run across any horrible bugs. It supports streaming mp3 & ogg/Vorbis via shoutcast, which is really nice if you have unlimited data. It also has a nifty function to turn off the screen and leave music playing since hitting the power button kills the music since that puts it in standby mode. It also has an equalizer if you feel like taking the time to tweak it (I didn’t… no presets loaded by default).

TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player) is a really awesome replacement for WindowsMedia 10. It supports actually making playlists on the device, unlike WMP10 and is just plain more customizable. Also, if you search hard enough you can find an AAC plugin for it that allows you to play/stream AAC audio, something that no other free media player for WM5 will do.

PHM Regedit is my personal favorite registry editor for PocketPC. Works great and takes up very little space.

Total Commander is an amazing file manager that includes zip support and works great for moving and copying files among many other features. Definitely worth a download.

PocketPutty is a really good freeware SSH client based on the desktop version of Putty. I used it once or twice just to test and it works great. I myself don’t have a whole LOT of use for it right now but if you need SSH access while on the go, this should do the trick.

Now for a couple more hacks worth noting. First off, IE’s cache is a ridiculous 12MB by default. I’m not really sure why you would want that much cache on a device with so little memory available. I have mine set @ 2MB (same as Opera’s) and it works fine. To do this, go to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content and change the “CacheLimit” entry to 2048 (2MB).

Increase your keyboard backlight timing by doing the following: Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight and change the QKeyLedTimeout to something other than 10. Basically this is the same setting you can change in the control panel but doing it in the registry allows you to set it beyond 10 seconds (max the control panel allows).

Disable holding end key to enable Flight Mode: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA and change FlightModeSwitchByPnHendKey to “0″.

Nostalgia

Wow… I’ve just spent the past hour or so playing old school NES games via an emulator on my PC here at work. It’s a fair bit of fun except trying to play on the keyboard and in a tiny assed 320×240 window. Regardless, it’s fun to bring back old memories of games I used to play when I was like 10 yrs old. Contra was one of my favorites back in the day and apparently that came out in 1988… I was 9-10 yrs old at the time. I also played some Baseball Stars 2, which is such a huge contrast to the baseball games available today. 8-bit graphics, atrocious MIDI-based music, fake teams, fake players, 25 game schedule maximum and only like 12 teams. Yeah, what a joke. Fun to play for about 10 minutes then the music makes you want to rupture your eardrums with a rusty spoon. I also played a hacked Mario 3 called “Mario Adventure” that was pretty cool but just plain hard as shit on the keyboard. I’ll have to try this stuff out at home using a real controller and see how it goes. I downloaded Karnov, which I vaguely remember playing and I’m going to download ExciteBike because it had to be one of the coolest fucking games ever.

In case you’re wondering, here’s where to get the goods:

FCE Ultra can be had here: http://www.zophar.net/nes.html

Here’s a nice site with quite a few roms, though they haven’t been updated in a couple of years. They’re missing a few old games that I used to play but it’s a pretty nice collection overall. The Old Computer

holy shit! snow!

Yeah, no joke… we actually got snow today. Mind you, it didn’t lay on the roads or anything because it was too warm but it actually did snow for a few hours and dusted the ground pretty nicely. It was really nice to see as we haven’t had anything resembling actual snow for at least a couple of years that I can remember. Now, if we’d only get some REAL snow that lays on the ground AND the roads at the same time, that’d kick ass. I love to watch these fucking idiot rednecks try to drive in that stuff. Sliding all over the place, doing 360’s, plowing into each other because they don’t quite realize that if you jerk the wheel and/or slam on the brakes that your car doesn’t react anywhere near as quickly. Yep, people down here just plain can’t drive when the weather turns foul. Oh, well… I’ll make due with what we got today as I don’t think we’re going to get anymore meaningful precipitation in the forseeable future.

Various XV6700 hacks

Just a quick post to toss up a few hacks I’ve found and use for the XV6700. A comment on one of my previous posts asked how to do the wifi + phone hack, so for those of you that don’t know how, here’s how you do it.

Download PHM Regedit

Go to the key HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SERVICES\WirelessMGR and change “MutexFlag” from 1 to 0.

soft reset. Poof, you’ll now be able to have wifi on while the phone is on without any issues.

Speed up switching between Portrait & Landscape Modes

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\

Change limit from 8192 to 16384 or 32768 (experiment to see which works best for you)

soft reset
Enable BT & USB DUN

Go to the phone application and dial ##3328873 (FEATURE) and hit dial

it will ask for your unlock code, so enter 000000 (six zeroes)

EPST will popup and you’ll see two entries: Enable Wmodem and Enable BT DUN. Highlight each in turn and click edit on the bottom right, change both to enabled. Push ok and it will prompt you to soft reset. After soft resetting, you can then dialup via Bluetooth or USB cable. In order to use the USB cable, you’ll need the CDMA USB modem drivers which are on the 6700 product CD under \OEM\APPS\Drivers\CDMA USB Modem. Or download them here: CDMA USB modem drivers. It comes with a dialer program that you don’t necessarily need to use. However, if you’re using the USB cable, you have to start the wmodem program on your pocketPC to keep it from trying to activesync. It’s located in \windows\wmodem.exe. Run this before you connect the handheld to your PC via USB. Then you can just setup a DUN connection in windows to dial #777, use your 10-digit number @vzw3g.com as your username and vzw as the password. Once the connection is setup (assuming you’re using a manual connection in windows)
click on the “setup” button in the connection under USB CDMA modem and change the COM port speed to whatever the highest setting you have is. After that, you should be able to dial up just fine. Worked great for me.

Change softkeys on “Today” screen

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\keys\112 — left
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\keys\113 — right
You may not have a 113, but you can just make the 113 identical to 112 and change the “open” command. The value for “Default” controls what is displayed on the screen. For those curious, messaging is “tmail.exe”.

Get rid of SMS Delivery acknowledgements (popup and text msg)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\SMS
change “delivery ack” from 1 to 0. Now no more stupid delivery confirmation text msgs clogging up your inbox. Note that this sms is only received when you send an sms to another VZW user.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox

click on “Inbox” then Edit, new key. Name the new key “Settings”

Click on “Settings” and then edit, new string value. Value Name should be “SMSNoSentMsg”, Value Data should be “1″.

That’s most of the hacks I’ve done to my particular phone, though I do have a few more I could post if anyone actually wants them. :)
