I found a pretty interesting article on what the founders of myspace used to do before they started up myspace. Turns out that for the most part they all had some doings with email mass marketing and spam. Not really surprising since myspace seems to be predicated around spam that the userbase actually seems to welcome. People sending unsolicited bulletins that I really could give two shits less about reading, advertising at every turn (thank god for Firefox & Adblock), unsolicited friend requests from bands and porn spammers… not to mention the website is horribly laid out and a majority of the time takes 8 years to load, if it even loads properly at all. I use it less and less everyday and I’m still not exactly sure why I haven’t bothered deleting myself other than 90% of my friends have myspace and it’s occasionally amusing to see the new pics my friends post. Anyway, here’s the article. Pretty interesting reading.

Ogrish.com - UK Man Dies After Failed Suicide Attempt
I couldn’t help but laugh at this article. “Man dies after failed suicide attempt”. If you die, it didn’t fail did it? I guess the argument could be made that since the initial attempt at suicide failed but he died shortly afterwards that it didn’t count as a successfuly suicide attempt…. but I’m of the opinion that if you try to kill yourself and you end up dying as a result of anything that happened therein, it’s a successful attempt… since after all you DID kill yourself. Say if you jump off a bridge onto the pavement below but you land and just severely incapacitate yourself and don’t actually die… but you try to get up and are squashed by a tractor-trailer. Is that a failed attempt? No, not really. You still died! Anyway, enough about that. I just found it horribly amusing. Read it anyway because his attempt at suicide is rather comical.
I found the link via digg, but the video itself is hosted on youtube.com… Basically it shows all kinds of evidence and expert opinions pointing at the fact that the world trade center towers were taken down by explosives in a controlled demolition and not by the planes like the commission said. While pretty much all the evidence points at this and the “pancake theory” is 100% implausible given the construction of the towers, most people still prefer to believe the “official story” simply because the “controlled demolition” theory opens up a whole new can of worms that most people would rather not get into or even think about. Could the government really have orchestrated the whole thing? WOULD our government actually do such a thing? Unfortunately we’ll never know for absolute certain because all the physical evidence from the buildings (namely the steel columns) was carted off and shipped to Asia to be melted down. That’s right, no analysis done on the physical evidence from the rubble at all… Not to mention all the concrete and office equipment was pulverized into a fine dust. Hell, at that point, the government could have said that aliens from outer space did it and nobody would have been able to irrefutably prove otherwise. I guess this is another JFK-type thing in which we’ll never really know what EXACTLY happened on that day, but we can come up with our own theories as to how it happened.
For now it’s only available in Korea, but there’s no good reason it can’t be imported over here. It’s CDMA and has EV-DO, which means it should work on both Verizon and Sprint. A slider PDA phone with a 2.2″ 320×240 (QVGA) screen, bluetooth, 2MP camera, Windows Mobile and a 3GB hard drive! Yes, you read correctly, a hard drive. Screw removable storage, I’ll take the hard drive anyday. Being able to carry one device that does everything seems like a winner to me…. A phone, PDA, mp3 player and video player all wrapped up in one. No need to carry 3 or 4 devices anymore! Now, we can only hope that one of our two major lovely CDMA carriers will opt to pick up this badass phone.
Catholic school forbids students from having “blogs”
Ok, wtf? So apparently this private Catholic school in NJ has decided to forbid its students from having personal blogs. Mind you, they’re not just forbidding students from blogging while at school (which I could understand) but from blogging AT HOME. I’d like to know how that’s even remotely legal…. a school trying to regulate what students do on their own time away from school? Leave it to the fucking Catholics to think of something so utterly asinine. The reverend/principal/whatthefuckever says it’s to protect the students from online predators and whatnot. Yeah fucking right. The real reason they’re doing it is so that students don’t go saying bad stuff about the school online where everyone can read it. It’s to protect the school’s image. Don’t want the rest of the world knowing about the reverend’s special punishment for all those cute young freshman Catholic schoolgirls who wear their skirts a bit too short. Give me a break. God forbid they let these kids actually think and act for themselves and turn into responsible, self-sufficient adults. That’d be bad for the church, eh? Even funnier is that the idiot claims that he believes that most of the students have complied with the order. How in the world would he know if they’ve complied? Seriously, does he sit at home at night browsing through all the xanga, myspace, livejournal, etc. sites looking for students of his school to see if they have online blogs? He also says that those that don’t comply will face punishment. What kind of punishment? Does he not think for half a second that if he DOES decide to actually go through with punishing any student for not complying that it won’t end up in court? Dude’s definitely opened up a hell of a can of worms here. I’m not so sure I’d really want to be in his shoes at this point given the shitstorm he’s quite possibly setting himself up for. Why is it always the Catholic church that ends up stirring up the shit?
Driver of dump truck checks fuel level with a LIGHTER!
Ok, what the FUCK was this dipshit thinking? Seriously… He has a dumptruck with a faulty fuel gauge and decides to check his fuel level in the tank… that’s all fine and dandy, but do it with a goddamn flashlight. Who in their right mind would stick a lighter near a tank of fuel (gasoline or diesel, doesn’t matter). Did he not stop to think that maybe there would be FUMES? If fumes get near a flame, what do they do? They IGNITE! Amazing concept, eh? Too bad fucklick didn’t die. We sure as hell don’t need him in the gene pool. Maybe we’ll at least be fortunate enough to keep him from reproducing. Darwinism at its best, baby.
So apparently the Dave Chappelle show is offically done-for. Too bad since I really enjoyed watching it. I own the first season on DVD and actually rented the 2nd season. Both are excellent and definitely best watched in their uncensored form. I never bothered watching it on TV because I really hate watching anything that’s been censored or cut. Plus I love the fact that the DVD’s aren’t interrupted by stupid commercials. Needless to say, it was great while it lasted. Hopefully we’ll at least get to see Dave do some stand-up and/or some movies and whatnot. It’d suck to see him just go into seclusion and do nothing ever again. Of course Comedy Central is saying the door is open for Dave to come back and continue the show. Hell, it made them tons and tons of money so of COURSE they’re going to want Dave to come back and continue with his show. Dave apparently did a few standup shows in LA and may very well be planning to do a series of standup shows around the country. I know if he did do it and came within a reasonable distance of my area I’d go see him, no doubt. Anyway, we’ll just have to see how things transpire. At least it appears that though the Chappelle Show itself is dead that Dave isn’t completely giving up showbiz. Then again, news sources have been wrong before.
here’s one opinion on the matter
Grokster Ruling Delights Entertainment Industry
Basically the supreme court ruled that in fact peer-to-peer filesharing networks can be sued if the users on them are sharing illegal files. Supposedly, they can only be sued if the networks in question have not taken any measures to stop people from sharing illegal files and are basically “promoting its use for copyright infringement”. Seems to me that the MPAA and RIAA are losing money out the ass and trying everything imagineable to recover some of their lost assets. Well, here’s a tip…. how about having artists put out CD’s that are more than just one or two decent songs and 12 songs of worthless filler bullshit? Sorry, but I’m not paying $17 for a CD that has two good songs on it. Not to mention I don’t even own a CD player anymore. I’d have no problem purchasing music if the music was actually worth purchasing. Granted, some online music stores have started to crop up now that actually allow you to purchase just one or two songs off a given CD but the big problem there is that there is still a decent portion of music that isn’t available digitally. Not only that, there’s restrictions on some of the music (mostly the “subscription” type) that says you can only use it on a certain number of PC’s, can’t burn it to CD if you want, etc. Also, if I’m going to purchase music online, I’d prefer it to be in something like FLAC because it’s completely lossless and true CD quality stuff. As it is, Yahoo offers the best quality @ 192kbps WMA. I did purchase one track off Yahoo Music for $0.79 because it was a great song and an artist I really liked. Also, it was the only way I could transfer it to my portable mp3 player. However, it still says it is “protected content” in the license info screen. I bought the music, why is it protected and from what is it protected? Am I not free to use do as I please with the song? As such, I think that’s still the issue with purchasing music online. It’s still not as “free” as buying a CD. Also, what if your hard drive crashes? You have to buy all your music all over again if you haven’t managed to back it all up. Ouch!
So there’s this acid test to test standards compliance and as of right now, no released browser correctly renders the page. Amusingly, IE does the worst (completely impossible to even figure out what it’s SUPPOSED to be). Opera and Firefox do ok at best. Supposedly the new version of Konqueror and icab (mac browser) pass it but they’re still in development and aren’t available to most of the general public. Here’s the link to the test. Basically it’s just proof that IE6 (what most of you are running) doesn’t support all of the up and coming web standards. IE7 is supposed to fix most of the problems, but I’ll believe that when I see it. As of now, I use both Firefox and Opera and haven’t had any real problems with either. Firefox is more basic and more customizable but Opera comes more loaded straight out of the box. Hell, the only time I even use IE anymore is if I need to go to Windows Update to download patches for Windows. Outside of that, it’s either Firefox or Opera. If it doesn’t display correctly in either browser then the web designer for that site is an idiot and I don’t bother visiting anymore. Plain and simple. If you’re going to have a website, you should make sure it looks right in every browser. Ok, random geek rant over.
Ok, this is just plain funny… AOL Monitor Accused of Luring 15-Year-Old. Basically an AOL chatroom monitor is being accused of seducing a 15 year old girl a few years ago. He was 23 at the time. Gotta love AOL!
